Twiga Treats Story
Hi, I’m Cathy—the founder of Twiga Treats. After 25 years in the pharma and biotech world, I traded drug development for butter and flour, bringing a scientist’s precision and curiosity into every dessert I create.
My love of baking began early with neighborhood bake-offs and small-batch jams, but it truly blossomed during grad school when a talented lab mate introduced me to the art of beautiful cakes and pastries. For years, baking was my creative outlet—until mid-2024, when I decided to turn passion into profession. While traveling with friends in Tanzania, I committed to starting a baking business, and Twiga Treats was born. (“Twiga” means giraffe in Swahili, a happy reminder of that life-changing trip.)
At Twiga Treats, I combine technical skill with creativity—experimenting with flavors, perfecting textures, and crafting desserts that taste as good as they look. I love creating elegant cakes with silky Swiss meringue buttercream and intricately decorated cookies. And I am now exploring laminated doughs like croissants and Danishes—so Boston-area pop-ups in 2026 will be extra exciting!
To keep growing, I’m currently enrolled in Boston University’s Pastry Arts Program, learning from pastry luminaries and expanding my repertoire of classic and contemporary techniques.
When I’m not in the kitchen, I enjoy giving back to our community by volunteering with Community Consulting Teams of Boston and mentoring students at my alma maters.
